Two extremities

All of a sudden one thursday evening I took the dictionary to look up a word "FURLONG" I knew it had something to do with distances. But was not sure how much it measured. Obviously you people are thinking why suddenly "FURLONG???". This guy has got his brain screwed up by micronano waves from the distant planet of zork or what???. NOPE. ...FLASHBACK!!!!

Standing in S11 having no place to rest on, I was compressed from all sides. I did not have to catch hold of anything because there was no place to fall even! Just then a guy with a drum in his hand came in. He just made way for himself and got a seat too. Imagine my plight. Standing all the way from Peelamedu. Then the guy started asking directions for some community hall. All of a sudden another guy talks. Let me describe this guy first. Unshaven , ruffled up hair, with a stained shirt and lungi!!. The guy said in tamil "It is just a furlong or two from the edayarpalayam stop.!!

I was stunned for a second. Thats when I realised that people had knowledge but did not have the means to expose it. I don't have any idea how he gotta know that word! But it finally made me know the meaning of a word i thought was long extinct. But then there was this exact opposite guy. The word he used "ASSAULT". And the usage---> Makes-me-hit-myself-on-the-head-with-a-shit-covered-moth-eaten-piece-of-cloth inappropriate. Why do they have to assault that word!!!!! Such people are the unfortunate ones I realised. The ones who have not been given the facilities to prove their mettle in such areas. But then another thought nagged at me. Isn't it also true that it is they themselves who choose to be the way they are??Are'nt they the ones who know they are wrong but take no effort to correct themselves???

There are some people lazy enough in this world not to choose their own destiny and just lie down letting the stream carry them along. No aim, goalless, drifting, hitting the bum on the occasional bump and later letting the stream soothe it as they are lazy enough not to do so. Such people I detest. I would like to mention that it is not the people who do not opportunity yet have the desire. It is those who just live because they are born that I loathe. Evidende: Near railway station there is a bus stop. All sorts of mendicants in all sorts of poses and varying degrees of filth can be seen. I can't help but pity them but there is a certain degree of anger mingled in that pity. They are created with six senses but I found them eating along with a pig. I was moved, by anger and shame. Shame on the human race for letting this happen.

As Led Zeppelin says." And a new day will dawn for those who stand long and the forests will echo with laughter!". At the same I have found that I have become "Comfortably Numb."

Ciao!

Well...we actually HAVE to do sumthin..it's just that we don't realize wat that Sumthin is...i don't think ruminating the same thing over and over again will work...gotto think of sumthin really productive and implement it...prolly an awareness campaign (on poverty and these vagabonds) or sumthin...or prolly talk to those less fortunate ppl and illuminate them abt the difficulties that they would prolly face (and let the oder ppl face too !)if they continue to be scroungy and beggarly

We culd prolly do sumthin...make use of the holz, trying to u know sorta talk to them abt this and edify them. (Not a joke. am pretty serious abt it)..we culd prolly end up doing sumthin good for ppl arnd us.

PS : am not trying to be a philanthropist :D

@ nith ...

Ur looking at how to help, sharan is looking at them and im thinking of HOW they ended up there in the first place.

Namma naadu periya naadu, and no matter what u do, there are always going to be circumstances because of which people end up as they eventually do, poverty is a matter of circumstance, reducing it is the job of the government and doing our bit results in a moral gratification thats about it. Perfection simply ISN't possible in a country of more than a billion :)
Poverty is an ugly circumstantial reality , gotta live with it , bad part is it cannot be removed completely , good part is it CAN be reduced....

@ sharan... that was one Fuc$#in long comment man!...

@ Sharan ---> hmm...prolly u missed out on Priyanka Chopras and landed up seeing Paravai Muniammas instead....and yeah were u one of those tee shirt, rounded railing walas out there ;) ? and another comment has been posted,in the form of a reply to ur "friendship comment".

@ Shrey ----> i m talkin abt Reduction (in ur terms)...oru oru area layum,if ppl start doing such things prolly it might lead to Mass Reduction in Poverty..which means it CAN be eradicated..All we need is some Optimism (as i always say) and yeah we shuld prolly drag sum ppl (the-so-called-altruists) and ask them to spread "the good word"...
"things can possibly work out"--->if we start off with this thought, then i m sure things will really fall into place and who knows India might prolly be a skint-free country (bigtime dreams idhellam..)

@ nith

ok cool ur trying to get to the grassroots ... and yea u have a good heart :P ... but if philanthropy is what u demand from people... u are not going to get it, 3/4th of the people who DON'T live under the poverty line make enough money or get enough food to live out each day at a time and expecting them to be generous is like tying to ask an ostrich to fly.

the only possible way is foreign aid. That i agree is possible ....

and what the f#$k is goin on in this comment page...its littered with arguments, counter arguments and i don't know what fu$%4in else...and yea murphy's laws eh sharan...u might want to pass that on here once ur done with it :D ...

Ryan said...

@shrey .... dude getting an ostrich to fly is like getting nith to arc....
@nithya.....er comin to arc might help the poor people who started it..!!
@shrey again...yea murphys laws....there were two books but i got one...unfortunately they would give only one book free!!!

@Shrey ---> i think i confused u ppl like hell...Wat i actually meant was lets educate the people abt the consequences of being consistently poor.I'm not at all talkin abt money/aid.We just got to find out the reason for their being badly off and try to talk things out to them ..say, encourage them to go and work instead of begging or prolly ask them to have this begging thingy as a part-time job :P...or urge them to attend those night schools and prolly try making them a little literate so that they can be employed like the rest of the people..As regards the disabled scroungers, the scenario is totally different...appo money (to get them settled in a shelter-home) is involved..Appo nee solradhu right..

@ Sharan---> rechristen ur blog page from An Idle Mind to 'Debate Domain' :P

@ Shrey again --->"and yea u have a good heart :P "
"Eyebrow Raising Smiley" /:)

@ Sharan again ---> "er comin to arc might help the poor people who started it..!!"
adhukku thaane unglamaari aal ellam irukka pinna enna ?...I prefer concentrating on the other beggars :P

These people need no education9as of now) & we all know how they got there.....Give them a job & tell them u ll pay & 90% of them will turn u off
They are used to being lazy. I think the government can do something .ban beggars or something. They can offer them quarters to live & get them jobs-like clearing the land, agriculture & some house-keeping in industries. The child care should take care of those kids in the streets.
