We see movies; movies of different kinds. Today I saw a movie of the kind "Requiem for a dream". Yes, it is powerful enough to consider as a genre by itself. What promised to be a story of how four people failed to achieve their dreams and lost it due to drug addiction proved to be a whole lot more than what I'd expected. Mind you, I'd expected a lot, this being on the top 20's list on imdb and what with my friends recommending it. Even then, it overwhelmed it. When the movie got over, I sat still for 15 minutes. Why? Because that was how disturbing it was.

The way in which they portray them is simply brilliant. Four different characters. One who pops alleged slimming pills (with dope) in order to fit in her dress, two to make enough money to open a shop, one just for the heck of it. And then the way they end up, oh the way they end up. Drugs made the old woman lose her mind. Drugs made the young man who lie in jail feeling cold and naked, when he thought about his mother and how he had been back then. Drugs made Harry lose his arm. Drugs had turned Marian into an animal, abused to the extent of being depraved, all for the sake of laying her hands on them.

What adds to the haunting power of this movie is the background score. When the images of these four people in the end flit past your eyes, with the dark beauty of the violins, the hands moving smoothly across the chords  in the background, it hits you, stuns you real hard.

Do not see this movie if you are a fan of happy endings. Not all people appreciate it.

A dark, beautiful portrayal of the ill-effects of drugs, both dealing and consumption, crafted wonderfully to be not too long or not too short.

The OST.

You've captured those few frames so well! Oh, and the music. [Nostalgic] The music is killing.

Killing IS the word.

@quakeboy

Then you should watch this. Love the name "quakeboy"

@sneha

Oh , traffic? How did you like that? And if you did like that drug-related movie, you should watch this too. Either you'll love it, or won't watch it fully. Two extremes. And thanks for visiting.

I agree that I was disturbed too after watching this movie. I recommend watching "An American Crime" for the effect it has on u after the movie. I was still for a few days!
